Welcome to the year 6 page. Here you will find updates of all the wonderful things the pupils will be getting up to in lessons as well as important information regarding future trips and much more.
Mr Brooks’ Visit
Blywyddyn 6 - year 6 are extremely lucky to have Mr Brooks visit them today. He was a Police Officer during the Miners’ strike. They are all looking forward to hearing about his first hand experiences.
Mining Strike
Year 6 are beginning to learn all about the Mining Strike. Mr Volk has been discussing with the pupils the impact striking had on the people and their local communities. He explained about trade unions and picket lines, the difficulties experienced by striking and non-striking miners and the subsequent tension caused.
Hidden Heroines
Year 6 have been learning about local heroines and their impact on Wales. They watched short videos on Elizabeth Andrews, Betty Campbell, Cranogwen (Sarah Jane Rees), Elaine Morgan and Lady Rhondda. We have the opportunity to vote for one to have a statue made in their honour; however voting closes tonight!

Malala Yousafzai
Year 6 have been learning about Malala Yousafzai and her incredible story. A young girl who nearly lost her life because of what she believed in. The pupils cannot believe how incredibly courageous and brave she remained despite the dangers her and her family were in. Needless to say we have all been humbled by her fight for an education.
Roman Walk and Talk
As part of their Roman topic, year 6 have been doing a Walk and Talk session developing ideas ready for their Gladiator Diary assessment on Friday.
Arabic Calligraphy
Inspired by their trip to Dar-ul-Isra Morque, year 6 wanted to try out some Arabic Calligraphy. In their sketch books they started out by practising letters in the alphabet before trying to recreate animals and shapes using a selection of Arabic letters.
Dar-ul-Isra Mosque
Year 6 were warmly welcomed by the lovely Sisters and Brothers of the Dar-ul-Isra Mosque. They had kindly volunteered to take year 6 through a number of stations discussing different aspects of Islam. The pupils got the opportunity to draw some beautiful Arabic calligraphy, learn about the 5 pillars, discuss the prophets and their links to other religions and most importantly, how to be a good person and kind to others. The Sisters and Brothers were enthusiastic with the pupils and so knowledgeable that they even taught the staff a thing or too. What a wonderful trip!
Croeso Nol! - Welcome back!
We hope you all had a lovely half term. Autumn 2 is here and year 6 are into their new topic - Gods and Gladiators. Today they have been researching Romans and will be taking part in a Walk and Talk activity later this afternoon.
Dark Tales From The Woods
Year 6 have started their new topic on the book by the Welsh author Daniel Morden called 'Dark Tales From The Woods'. They have read 'The Squirrel and the Fox' and 'The Leaves that Hung but Never Grew.'
It's one of our favourite times of year in year 6 - creating Lego Movies. The pupils have had time to practice their stop frame animation skills by using iMotion and will now be putting them to the test to create their Lego Movies. Patience and creativity is the name of the game. The slower the movements the better the animation. We all cannot wait to watch them on Friday.
Year 6's Welsh phrase of the week is: 'Sut wyt ti'n teimlo? Which means: 'How are you feeling?' They are practising answering the question with: 'Dwi'n teimlo yn...' (I'm feeling...). They can then anwer with: hapus, drist, wedi blino etc.
Year 6 are writing the 'resolution' and 'ending' parts of their Sci Fi stories today. They have worked so hard and improved so much throughout this writing task. We cannot wait to read the finished stories and Mrs Miles cannot wait to display them.
