The Birchgrove JRSO's were invited to present at the Annual JRSO Meeting which is held at Maindy Leisure Centre. The pupils had prepared a wonderful powerpoint about what they had learnt this year, why they enjoyed being JRSO's, what things they have implemented to name a few. They presented beautifully. After that they then took part in a fun quiz to test their knowledge of road safety. They managed to finish in third place - da iawn pawb!

After lunch the pupils then had a rotation of different stations; A Road Safety talk, A First Aid session and meeting their community PCSO's. To find out more click here  to view the JRSO's page (Community page).

30 Pupils from year 6 were lucky enough to go to the Cardiff Games 2016 at Talybont. It was a fun filled day focussed on giving the pupils plenty of sporting opportunities in the hope of the children finding a new sport that they could enjoy. The Multi-skills day was absolutely excellent and year 6 got to have a go at Judo, Gymnasatics, Football, Hockey and Athletics. There was also a great station that taught the children all about healthy living whilst doing really fun games. All pupils were amazing all day and really did the school proud. At the end of the day they were awarded 'The Spirit of the Games' Trophy due to their hardwork, constant enthusiasm, sportsmanship and kindness throughout the day. This made all the teachers and the school so very proud. Da iawn pawb!!

Dydd Llun 30 Tachwedd - 4 Dydd Gwener Rhagfer 2015

This week year 6 have been planning their own science fiction story. We have been looking in detail at typical opening paragraphs as well as concentrating on the building up of suspense. We will be continuing with this next week.

Dydd Llun 16 Tachwedd - 19 Dydd Gwener Tachwedd 2015

Dydd Llun 9fed - Dydd Gwener 13eg

This week, year 6 will be focussing on advertising as we build up to next week's sessions on making our own advert.

We will be comparing some popular TV adverts, slogans and logos and we will also be learning about persuasive language.

We will have a reading comprehension exercise where we will be comparing two adverts for the same product, and we will be looking at the key features of a script for an advert before working in groups to write our own.

Our Maths topic is area, and some of us will be calculating area and perimeter in our playground (weather permitting!).

Dydd Llun 2ain Tachwedd - Dydd Gwener 6ed Tachwedd

Year 6 have begun their new topic 'Techo-Tastic!' After looking at a variety of genres, we focused on Sci-Fi (Science Fiction). We enjoyed clips from 'Avatar' and 'Dream Giver'. Through some annotating of a modelled text, we identified metaphors, similes, personification and powerful adjectives. We used these in our independent writing when we created our own version of the 'Dream Giver'.
