10.6.16. Cardiff Castle Trip


Year 3 had an extremely interesting day at Cardiff Castle today. They enjoyed the WW2 workshop, the air raid shelter tour and learning songs from WW2. We were lucky to witness the 12 gun salute while we were there, in honour of Prince Philip's birthday, a marvelous opportunity. We would like to thank all the parents and carers for their support in providing the children with an evacuee outfit, they looked delightful and it really added to the whole experience. 28.04.16. Year 3 have been learning about bones. Thank you Dr Singh for coming in to talk to the classes.

26.04.16  Year 3 read reference books about the human body to research relevant information.  They used the contents, index and glossary to extract interesting and fun facts on different body organs.  Click here to see them hard at work.

26.04.16 Year 3 have been enjoying the influx of lots of new books. They were thrilled to choose what they wanted for the book corner themselves. Lovely to see our year 3 bookworms!

New books have just arrived in Year 3!

15.04.16  PC Mark visited Year 3 and talked to us about Internet Safety.  He also gave us some mouse mats with the SMART logo on.

12.04.16 Year 3 had an exciting start to our new topic Blood, Bones and Gory Bits. Click on the gallery to see what we have been investigating. Lots more pictures there to be seen.

23.3.16 Year 3 went to visit the Whitchurch High School Art Exhibition. Lots of art work was displayed from local primary schools including Birchgrove! We had fun looking at the variety of art work on display. Some of us were excited to see our own work on display!

18.3.16 We had lots of fun this week! Year 3 have taken part in the can flip challenge, made balloon rockets and learned lots about the moon in a science workshop. Take a look in our photo gallery for the pictures.

26.2.16. We would like to thank all the year 3 pupils who entered the Eisteddfod collage, craft competition. We were so pleased with the number of entries and the high standard of the art produced. We are looking forward to announcing the winners, but in our eyes you are all winners. Ardderchog year 3 !

19.1.16. Update.

3W enjoyed a super day at Cog Moors, the sun shone and the children learnt a great deal about saving water. A successful trip all round. A very big thank you to Mrs. Bowden and our parent helpers for their support and participation. Please take a look at the year 3 gallery to see photos from the trip.

3RB enjoyed a fantastic day at Cog Moors. Look in the gallery for photos of all the fun.

13.01.2016  3RB enjoyed a fantastic day of learning  at Cog Moors Waste Water Treatment Centre. We participated in many activities which were both challenging and fun! We worked in teams for the pipe challenge and went searching for clues about water efficiency in the woods. A great day was had by all - 3RB were Birchgrove stars! Bendigedig!

11.12.15  Year 3 looked at light in paintings. We looked at Turner's famous painting of Venice. First they practised colour mixing using blues and yellows. Then they drew the skyline on paper and tried to add perspective. Next they started painting their own versions of Turner's painting. Take a look in our gallery, and watch this space for the final masterpieces.

4.12.15. Year 3 enjoyed a fabulous production  of the Snow Queen at the Bethel Church this afternoon. The moral of the story was to have a good heart and be kind to people. A huge thank you to all the staff at the centre for their hospitality and for keeping us entertained, the production was very well organised and enjoyed by both pupils and adults alike. A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon. Take a look at the photos on our year 3 gallery please.

Wild Wood

In this project the children will learn:

· About the habitats and characteristics of the local wildlife, and

      about the challenges facing them;

· How to use a range of sources to obtain information, including

      fieldwork and ICT;

· To use a range of artistic and technological skills and techniques

      to create a 3D installation on the theme of ‘Wild Wood’;

· To take account of the views of others and work collaboratively;

· To use visual displays to educate, persuade and inspire others;

· To present information verbally and visually
