Topic / Literacy

Hello Year 4!  We hope you all had a lovely half-term holiday and are refreshed and ready for the rest of the summer term.  This week is Sports Day (Week!) 2020.  Mrs McNamara has organised different events for each day, starting with the Jumping Event on Monday.  Follow the link below to find out all about it. It will be so much fun!

As well as Sports Day activities we will be listening to James and the Giant Peach and doing some activities on it this week.

Finally, we need your ideas for our new topic, see below!

Language, Literacy and Communication

James and the Giant Peach

Task 1

Listen to the first four chapters of James and the Giant Peach.

Task 2

Read the script from James and the Giant Peach.  Document A below.

Task 3

Learn about the features of a play script.  Document B below (It's preferable to use the PowerPoint rather than the PDF, if you have PowerPoint).

Either highlight/colour the features of a script on Document C (if you have a printer) or make a poster that explains the different features of a script.

Task 4

Act out the script with someone in your family.  If you want to you can video your play and upload it onto FlipGrid, or email us your video.  We would love to see them.

Document A below.

Task 5

Write your own script about a little boy or girl who meets a strange person or creature.  What does the strange creature give the them?  Remember to use all the features you have been learning about.

New Topic

Our new topic is called 'Travel Agents'.  First we will be thinking about Cardiff as a tourist destination.  Then considering other destinations around the world.  We will be thinking about the geography, people, languages, food and things to do if you were visiting these destinations.  We will compare Cardiff and another country.  We would like your ideas for this new topic.  Think about all the different curriculum areas: English, maths, science, geography, history, music, art and design.  Record your ideas on FlipGrid or send them to us in an email.
